How did Morrison's Greenhouses become a reality? It all began in 1954 when a young sailor, George Morrison, was thinking about home and future life. He wanted to farm under a roof. He came home after spending four years in the U.S. Navy traveling the world. He married his childhood sweetheart, Lara Morrison, and they started his dream of long ago.
They started the long road ahead of them. They began with one greenhouse (his farm under a plastic top). Today they have 34 houses all under roof. They started out planting tomato & pepper plants. They went to schools and got milk cartons, the ones children had for lunch. They opened the cartons and punched a hole in the bottom for drainage; later to plant tomato plants in for sale. These plants were sold for .25 cents a piece. Today some go for $2 to $5 a piece. After the vegetable plants came the flowers.
Today in 2022, planting has changed over the years. WE ALSO DELIVER! We work very diligently in the off season to make sure our plants have the best quality. Planting takes a lot of time, effort, and patience. You might have seen some our flowers at the Catholic picnics in the Louisville areas. As you might know, Morrison's greenhouses is a family business. Lara and George had nine children, and today have many grand children. George Morrison passed away in May of 2010, he was a great man who followed his dreams of a greenhouse business, we are very proud of how far the business has come. Laura, who is now 85, still lives on the property and works at the greenhouse everyday. Their sons; Shawn and Scott Morrison help run it, as well as her grand daughter Amanda Morrison. You will see them on the property when you come visit, if you need any help we are always more than happy to assist you!
